Precaliber 20 will have your little rider begging to go out for a pedal on their first real big kid bike. It's a great transition model from training wheels. It has one speed, a coaster brake, and a saddle with an integrated handle that can be swapped out for a light mount. For kids ages 6-8, between 45-52-inches tall.
It's right for you if...
Your kid is ready to leave training wheels behind, and you want to get them a fun, durable, bike that's simple to use. You don't want to settle for a big box brand, because you know the value of a high-quality bike that will keep your kid confident and in control.
The tech you get
A lightweight Alpha Silver Aluminum frame, one speed, and a coaster brake. Plus, a kickstand and a saddle with an integrated handle that can be swapped out for an integrated taillight mount. Everything on this bike is built to last, so it'll still feel like new when handed down to younger siblings.
The final word
This bike is the perfect choice for young riders who want to transition from a little kid bike to a big kid bike, with a simple, quality frame that will keep them upright and smiling while they ride at the park with friends or on the local bike paths with your family.
Why you'll love it
- One speed is all you need—a simple set-up gives kids confidence and helps them stay in control
- Coaster brakes are simple and intuitive for kids to use—they just pedal backwards to stop!
- You can replace the saddle's integrated handle with an integrated light mount to boost visibility on family adventures and solo excursions
- Like all Precaliber bikes, the frame is lower so it's easier for kids to stand over and hop on and off
- You shouldn't buy your kid's bike where you buy your cereal—Unlike big box brands, Trek kids' bikes are assembled by people who know bikes

Amazing bike(Autistic son learned to ride)
This is my 8 year old son's bike. Firstly, he is on the autism spectrum and would be considered "high functioning" my mainstream standards. Riding a bike even with training wheels was a challenge with him growing up because he has a heightened sense of danger, lack of determination, and inability to stick with difficult tasks which all easily shut him down. Looking on the internet it seems that the targeting ads push the masses to the Guardian bikes. We randomly went to this bike shop one day to check out some lower profile bikes like the Trek Precalibur 20 and he got on it and immediately went a few feet balancing and gave me the biggest smile I've ever seen. So I had to get the Pre-calibur 20. It took a few days to overcome his limitations and struggles but finally picked it up un assisted yesterday and can now travel down our street in a straight line with no assistance and no training wheels. If you are looking for a Guardian alternative that you can try in store. I highly recommend the Trek Precalibur. You can obviously see the Trek quality and reputation even in this entry level kids bike. One thing I would note is we opted for the single speed which kind of proved a little challenging for him starting off from a stop to get enough initial speed to get going. If you can manage it get the 7 speed version and I bet that will help getting them off the line easier.

Best bike I have ever owned!!!
I have never spent more than 200.00 on a bike until purchasing my new Trek Dual Sport 2, it is true what they say "you get what you pay for!" what a difference! this bike rolls so easy and is extremely easy to pedal up hills and over rough terrain i.e. the shoulders of a road. which is very important to me because we don't have a ton of paved sidewalks and trails in my town.
Great first bike
We got this bike for my daughter's 6th birthday, after she was riding her 16" bike for a while. She absolutely loved it, and once she got used to the 20" frame, she was unstoppable. When the weather was still decent we would all go on 3 to 5 mile rides at her request a few times a week. This bike is solid and smooth on and off path. I'm so glad I got her this, despite the price for a kids bike.
Great choice for me
The Trek Dual Sport 2 is an upgrade from what I previously owned which was more of a comfort bike. Prior bike was well suited for the relatively flat paved bike paths back east but out here the larger variations in elevation and the prevalence of gravel bike trails are better accommodated with the the Dual Sport. It's great on both the road and trails. It is not a mountain bike but that's ok with me because I'm not going there. ... I did upgrade the seat because at nearly 70 years old I figured I deserved it. ... Overall a nice combination of style, speed, comfort, weight, versatility and quality.
Best bike I have ever owned
I have had this bike two months now. It has changed my life. Very fun to ride on and off road. Beautiful bike -- I get a lot of compliments from friends. I live in a city with lots of hills and I laugh at them now with all these gears! I highly recommend this bike.
Great kids bike! Not easy to find.
Gave this to my son for his 8th birthday. Got the black version. Had always used training wheels prior. Dropped the saddle to lowest position so he could plant both feet when he lost balance. Started pedaling and off he went. He loves it!
